  2. East Stand: Along the touchline. Blocks L1 to L9 and U1 to U9, with a side-on view.

Simple plan, not to scale.

The Stadium of Light seating plan has four stands and holds 48,095 people. The Roker End, behind the south goal, is the loud home end. The Jimmy Montgomery Stand and East Stand run along the touchlines, and away fans sit high in the North Stand Upper. For noise, pick the Roker End. For the view, pick a side stand.

Every home game, with the way it is being sold, is on the Sunderland tickets page.

How does the Stadium of Light seating plan work?

The Stadium of Light seating plan works by stand, then tier, then block, then seat. The stadium is the home of Sunderland AFC, a Premier League club in the north-east of England. It opened in 1997 on the north bank of the River Wear, at Millennium Way, Sunderland, SR5 1SU.

A stand is one side of the ground. A tier is one layer of seats in that stand. A block is a numbered section of a tier, and it is the main thing you choose.

The Premier League Handbook for 2026/27 gives the capacity as 48,095 at the start of the season. You may see a rounded 49,000 online, but the Handbook figure is the one to use.

Which blocks are in each stand at the Stadium of Light?

Sunderland’s 2026/27 season ticket map gives each stand its own run of blocks. This table is the seating plan for the Stadium of Light in words:

Stand Where it is Main blocks Who sits there View and atmosphere
Roker End (South Stand) Behind the south goal. Named in December 2018 after the end at Roker Park, the club’s old ground L32 to L36, U13, U14 and U37 to U40 Home fans and the singing section Behind the goal. The loudest part of the ground
Jimmy Montgomery Stand (West Stand) West touchline, the long edge of the pitch. The main stand, renamed in May 2025 L15 to L22, U18 to U23, P1 to P23 Home fans. Executive boxes and the Premier Concourse are in the upper tier Side-on view of the whole pitch
East Stand East touchline, facing the main stand L1 to L9, U1 to U9 Home fans Side-on view of the whole pitch
North Stand Behind the north goal, in two tiers L25 to L29, U27 to U34 Home fans in the lower tier. Away fans in the North Stand Upper Behind the goal. Home and away fans are split by tier

How do you read the block numbers at the Stadium of Light?

Stadium of Light block numbers start with a letter that tells you the level. L is the lower section, U is the upper section, and P is the Premier Concourse, the upper tier of the Jimmy Montgomery Stand.

The corners have their own numbers, so use this list to see which stands they join:

  • East Stand and Roker End: L10, L11 and U10 to U12.
  • Roker End and Jimmy Montgomery Stand: L13, L14 and U15 to U17.
  • Jimmy Montgomery Stand and North Stand: L23, L24 and U24 to U26.
  • North Stand and East Stand: L30, L31, U35 and U36.

Does the Stadium of Light seating plan show rows and seat numbers?

The club’s Stadium of Light map works at block level, so it names blocks such as L18 or U37 rather than every row and seat. Use it to choose an area. You pick your exact seat on the club’s ticket site, after you win a ballot.

For the view from a real seat, fans share photos on sites such as A View From My Seat.

Where is the best place to sit at the Stadium of Light?

The best place to sit at the Stadium of Light is the Roker End for noise and the middle of a side stand for the view. Your choice depends on what you want from the day.

  • Best for atmosphere: the safe standing and singing section, marked on the club’s map across U37 to U40 and round the corner into U15 to U17. Safe standing means you may stand at your place, and fans there stand all game.
  • Best for a seat among home fans: the rest of the Roker End. You stay with the home support and keep a seat.
  • Best for the view: the central blocks of the side stands, such as U4 to U6 in the East Stand or L18 and L19 in the Jimmy Montgomery Stand. You sit level with the halfway line.
  • Best for comfort: the Premier Concourse and executive boxes in the Jimmy Montgomery Stand. Matchday hospitality, a ticket that comes with food and drink, is sold separately on the club’s ticket site. Its options include 76 Yards and Banks on the Wear.
  • Best for value: Area 1, the lowest of the club’s three pricing areas. The bulletins do not say which blocks it covers, so compare prices when you pick a seat.
  • First visit? Choose a side stand. You see the whole pitch, with the home end to one side.

Europa League nights change the plan a little. Sunderland says a small number of seats are unavailable at those home games because of UEFA rules, and it contacts every supporter affected before the general sale.

How much do seats at the Stadium of Light cost?

Seats at the Stadium of Light cost from £39 for an adult at a Category A league game such as Leeds United, according to the club’s 2026/27 ticket news. A category is a price band for a game. On top of that, a Black Cats Adult membership costs £48 a season.

Sunderland prices seats by pricing area, not by stand. Its bulletin for the Europa League game against Dinamo Zagreb shows how much the area and your age change the price. These are that game’s general sale prices, the prices in a sale open to everyone:

Pricing area Adult Over-65 Under-22 Under-18 Under-14
Area 1 £39 £32 £28 £20 £18
Area 2 £48 £36 £34 £24 £21
Area 3 £54 £40 £38 £27 Not listed

A season ticket is one payment for your own seat at every home league game. Adult holders could buy at £35, £43 or £49 for the same match.

This is one game’s list. As of 31 October 2026, the other Premier League categories had not appeared in the club’s bulletins, so check the price on screen before you pay.

Can you choose your own seat at the Stadium of Light?

Yes, you can choose your own seat at the Stadium of Light if you win a members’ ballot, because winners pick and pay for a seat themselves. A ballot is a free prize draw: you enter, and if your name comes up you can buy a ticket. Follow these steps:

  1. Decide what matters most: noise, view or price.
  2. Join the club. A membership is a paid yearly plan, sold at tickets.safc.com. Black Cats Adult is £48 a season, and Black Cats Academy, for ages 2 to 18, is £30.
  3. Enter the ballot for your game. Each entry window lasts two days, and the club’s weekly ticket news announces it.
  4. Watch your email. Results arrive from 4pm the day after the ballot closes.
  5. Pick your block and seat. Choose and pay by the deadline in that email, and keep a second-choice block in mind.

Some games are limited to members who have bought tickets before. If tickets remain after the draw, the club may add a general sale. Only holders of a Sunderland season ticket keep the same seat all season.

Where do away fans sit at the Stadium of Light?

Away fans at the Stadium of Light sit in the North Stand Upper, the top tier behind the north goal. That puts them at the opposite end from the Roker End. They go in through turnstiles 69 to 74, the entry gates set aside for visiting fans.

The Premier League approved this position for 2026/27 as a one-season exception, so it may change in later seasons. For Europa League games, visiting coaches park in the Yellow Car Park, which must be arranged in advance.

Going the other way? Sunderland’s away trips include Aston Villa on Saturday 21 November and Newcastle on Sunday 6 December. For Liverpool away, the Anfield seating plan shows that ground block by block.

Where should families and children sit at the Stadium of Light?

Families at the Stadium of Light should avoid the standing blocks and ask about family seats when they book, because the 2026/27 season ticket map marks no family section. Older references place a Family Zone in the south-east corner, by the East Stand and the Roker End. The club’s map does not confirm that for this season.

  • Bringing children? Stay out of U37 to U40 and U15 to U17 if they want to sit down.
  • Junior prices: in the Dinamo Zagreb general sale, under-14s paid from £18 and under-18s from £20.
  • Ballots: Black Cats Academy, at £30, lets young fans enter home ballots.

What accessible seating does the Stadium of Light have?

The Stadium of Light sells accessible match tickets and season tickets, subject to availability, and Sunderland says standard prices apply, with concessions also available. A concession is a lower price for people who qualify. Your price depends on the category of the game and where you sit.

  • Personal assistant: where a need has been identified, a personal assistant gets in free. They must be 18 or older, enter at the same time and sit with the disabled supporter.
  • Proof for a concession: you need one of enhanced PIP, enhanced DLA, enhanced Attendance Allowance or a visual impairment certificate.
  • How to send it: the document must be from the last 12 months. Send it or hand it in to the ticket office before you book.
  • What is not enough alone: a blue or orange badge, or incapacity benefit.
  • Passing a ticket on: accessible tickets cannot be transferred, but personal assistant tickets can.
  • Parking: season ticket holders can email ticket.office@safc.com for the limited accessible spaces, first come, first served.

The club’s accessible tickets page does not list the blocks, so ask the ticket office, in the north-east corner of the stadium, when you apply.

How does the Stadium of Light seating plan change for concerts and rugby?

The Stadium of Light seating plan changes for concerts, because the ground holds about 60,000 for a show, against 48,095 for football. Each concert has its own layout. So the football blocks and the away section rules above do not apply.

Many people look for the Stadium of Light seating plan for Take That. That concert took place on Tuesday 9 June 2026, so its plan is now out of date. The same goes for past shows such as Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé. For any concert, use the seat map supplied with your own tickets, and follow the entry and bag rules for that show.

Rugby comes to the ground too. The Red Roses, England’s women’s rugby team, play Scotland here on Saturday 17 April 2027 in the Women’s Six Nations. England Rugby sells those tickets, so use the seat map on its site.

How do you get to the Stadium of Light, and can you park there?

The easiest way to get to the Stadium of Light is the Tyne and Wear Metro, because two stations serve the ground. You cannot park there as a general fan: Sunderland says matchday parking is for seasonal hospitality clients and partners only. All kick-off times are UK time.

How From Worth knowing
Metro Stadium of Light or St Peter’s station After the game, use Stadium of Light for trains north towards Newcastle, and St Peter’s for trains south towards South Hylton
Train Sunderland station, in the city centre A walk of 10 to 15 minutes
Bus Routes 2, 3, 4, 12, 13, 15 and 16 They stop near the ground. Park Lane Interchange, the main bus station, is within walking distance
Car A19 and A1, then Wessington Way (A1231) No general supporter parking. Vehicles cannot reach the site from 30 minutes before kick-off until the game has started

Travelling from outside the North East? Take a train to Sunderland, then walk to the ground. If someone needs dropping close to the stadium, contact the club in advance.

On non-match days, the stadium car parks are free for visits under two hours. After that the club charges £4 for two to four hours, £8 for four to eight hours and £10 for 24 hours, through the Evology parking app.

What can you bring into the Stadium of Light?

You can bring a bag of A4 size or smaller into the Stadium of Light, which the club defines as 21 x 29.7 cm. There is no left-luggage service, so leave anything bigger at home.

  • Searches: every supporter is subject to a security search, so allow extra time at the gate.
  • Paying: the stadium is cashless, so bring a card or phone.
  • Smoking: not allowed, and that includes vaping and e-cigarettes.
  • Your ticket: tickets are digital passes held on your phone, so charge it before you set off.

What mistakes should you avoid at the Stadium of Light?

The most common Stadium of Light mistakes are sitting in a standing block by accident, planning to park at the ground and using the wrong map for a concert.

  • Picking U15 to U17 for a quiet seat. These corner blocks are part of the standing section, so fans stay on their feet there.
  • Driving to the ground. There is no general parking, so plan on the Metro, a train or a bus.
  • Using the football plan for a concert. The layout changes for every show.
  • Waiting for a general sale. Home seats go to members’ ballots first, and a general sale only follows if tickets remain.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Stadium of Light seating plan with seat numbers?

Sunderland's 2026/27 season ticket map works at block level, so it shows codes such as L18, U37 and P1 rather than every seat. You choose your exact seat on the club's ticket site after you win a members' ballot. Fan photo sites such as A View From My Seat give an idea of the view from real seats.

Where is the singing section at the Stadium of Light?

The singing section is in the Roker End, the home end behind the south goal. Sunderland's 2026/27 map marks a safe standing and singing section across upper blocks U37 to U40 and the neighbouring corner blocks U15 to U17. Fans in those blocks stand for the whole game, so choose elsewhere if you want to sit.

Where do away fans sit at the Stadium of Light?

Away fans sit in the North Stand Upper, the top tier behind the north goal, opposite the Roker End. They use turnstiles 69 to 74. The Premier League allowed Sunderland to keep them there for 2026/27 as a one-season exception, so the position could change in a later season.

How are the blocks numbered at the Stadium of Light?

Each Stadium of Light block has a letter and a number. L blocks are the lower section and U blocks the upper section, starting with L1 to L9 and U1 to U9 along the East Stand. P blocks, from P1 to P23, make up the Premier Concourse in the Jimmy Montgomery Stand.

Is there a Stadium of Light seating plan for the Take That concert?

Take That played the Stadium of Light on Tuesday 9 June 2026, so that concert has passed. Each show has its own layout, and the stadium holds about 60,000 for concerts. For any future show, use the seat map supplied with your tickets, not the football map, which does not apply.

What is the capacity of the Stadium of Light?

The Stadium of Light held 48,095 people at the start of the 2026/27 season, according to the Premier League Handbook. That is the football figure. You may also see a rounded 49,000 online, and the stadium holds about 60,000 for concerts, because the layout changes for those shows.

Can you park at the Stadium of Light on a matchday?

Not as a general supporter. Sunderland says matchday parking is for seasonal hospitality clients and partners only, and limited accessible spaces go to season ticket holders who email ticket.office@safc.com. Use the Metro, a train or a bus instead. Vehicles cannot reach the stadium site from 30 minutes before kick-off until the game has started.

Which Metro station is closest to the Stadium of Light?

Two Tyne and Wear Metro stations serve the ground: Stadium of Light and St Peter's. After the game, use Stadium of Light station for trains north towards Newcastle, and St Peter's for trains south towards South Hylton. Sunderland's main railway station, in the city centre, is a 10 to 15-minute walk away.

How much is a seat at the Stadium of Light?

Sunderland's 2026/27 ticket news shows adult seats from £39 for a Category A league game. For the Dinamo Zagreb Europa League game, general sale adults paid £39, £48 or £54, depending on the pricing area. You also need a Black Cats membership, at £48 for adults, to enter the members' ballots.

Is there a family section at the Stadium of Light?

Sunderland's 2026/27 season ticket map marks no family section. Older references place a Family Zone in the south-east corner, but the club's map does not confirm it, so ask the ticket office when you book. Steer clear of the standing blocks, U37 to U40 and U15 to U17, if your children want to sit.
