How to get Newcastle v Sunderland tickets

Every route to a seat at the club runs through membership: only members of The Mags, Mags+ and Junior Mags can buy. The club has now published the derby's on-sale dates, in Newcastle's usual sequence:

  • Ballot: open for 24 hours, from midday on Monday 9 November to midday on Tuesday 10 November, with the same chance for every membership tier. Results come before 11am on 11 November.
  • Seat selection: successful lead bookers get 48 hours, from midday on Wednesday 11 November to midday on Friday 13 November, to choose seats in their chosen area and pay.
  • Season ticket holders' turn: their ticket forwarding and resale opens at 4pm on Friday 13 November.
  • Then the Mags Member Sale: from 10am on Monday 16 November, an online sale with a randomised queue, for members without a ticket for this match.

If the derby sells out, the Mags Member Ticket Exchange is the last official option: season ticket holders resell seats they cannot use, first come, first served, until three hours before kick-off. If you plan to join, the Newcastle Membership guide sets out the tiers.

Outside membership, the derby is only available on the resale market. Sellers on Hellotickets set their own prices, which can be above face value, and the final price appears before you pay.

Where to sit at St. James' Park

For a derby, where you sit matters. Sunderland's fans will be at the north end, high in the upper tier of the Leazes Stand, Level 7, sections L7F-L7M, with their own turnstiles, 89-94, on the north side. Newcastle's most vocal support is at the south end: the Gallowgate Stand is the traditional home end, and the singing section now gathers in the Strawberry Corner, the safe-standing area between the Gallowgate and the East Stand. The Milburn Stand, the main stand on the west touchline, has the Family Area on Level 7.

On Hellotickets, Shortside zones are behind a goal, Longside zones along a touchline, and Upper or Lower gives the tier; the Gallowgate Stand zone sits in the home end. Away-section seats are listed separately. Home supporters should leave them alone and check that a Shortside upper seat is not in the Leazes visitors' sections: the St. James' Park seating plan shows each block.
