At a glance

  • Old Trafford holds 74,158 in four stands: the Stretford End, the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand and the East Stand.
  • For noise, pick the Stretford End. For the view, pick the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand near halfway. To be close, pick the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand.
  • The opponent sets the price first: adult tickets start at £33, £44, £55 or £62 by category, and better areas cost more.
  • Away fans use the south-east corner. Sections E230 to E233 and STH229 are marked for them on the club's 2026/27 price map.
  • Bags can be no bigger than 20cm x 15cm x 5cm, far smaller than A4, and every ticket is an NFC pass on your phone.
Old Trafford seating plan

  1. Sir Alex Ferguson Stand: Three tiers along the north touchline. The biggest stand, about 26,000 seats.
  2. East Stand: Two tiers behind the goal. Away section and disabled supporters' section.
  3. Sir Bobby Charlton Stand: One tier along the south touchline. Dugouts and most executive suites.
  4. Stretford End: Home end behind the goal. Two tiers, with 6,000 rail seats in the second.

Simple plan, not to scale.

The Old Trafford seating plan has four stands and 74,158 seats. The Stretford End, behind the west goal, is the loud home end. The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and Sir Bobby Charlton Stand run along the touchlines, and away fans sit by the East Stand. For noise, pick the Stretford End. For the view, pick a side stand.

Home games, and how each is being sold, are on the Manchester United tickets page. Every date at the ground is on the Old Trafford tickets page.

How does the Old Trafford seating plan work?

The Old Trafford stadium seating plan works by stand, then section, then row and seat. Old Trafford has been the home of Manchester United since 1910. It stands on Sir Matt Busby Way in Greater Manchester, and the Premier League Handbook for 2026/27 gives its capacity as 74,158. You may see slightly different numbers online, but that is the league’s figure.

A few words will help you read the plan. A stand is one side of the ground. A tier is a level of seats within a stand. A section, which some fans call a block, is a numbered part of a tier. The touchlines are the long edges of the pitch.

Stand Where it is Tiers Who sits there View and atmosphere
Stretford End (West Stand) Behind the west goal Two Home fans, with 6,000 rail seats in the second tier End-on view and the loudest part of the ground
Sir Alex Ferguson Stand (North Stand) Along the north touchline Three Home fans, in the biggest stand, with about 26,000 seats Side-on view, best from near halfway
Sir Bobby Charlton Stand (South Stand) Along the south touchline One Home fans, most executive suites and the media Side-on and close to the pitch, by the dugouts
East Stand Behind the east goal Two Home fans, the away section and the disabled supporters’ section End-on view, with nearly 12,000 seats

All four stands are covered by a roof, so you sit under cover in any of them. Price depends on the game first and the area second, as explained further down.

Searching for the cricket ground? Emirates Old Trafford is a separate venue that shares the tram stop, with its own seating plan. If you are going to a concert, check which of the two is named on your ticket.

You may also have read about a new stadium. In March 2025 the club announced plans for a ground of about 100,000 seats, but no move date is fixed. The layout here is the one in use for 2026/27.

What is each stand at Old Trafford like?

Each stand at Old Trafford has its own character, from the singing Stretford End to the single tier of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. These notes will help you match a stand to the day you want.

Stretford End (West Stand)

The Stretford End is the home end, behind the west goal, and the stand most fans picture when they think of Old Trafford. It has two tiers. The second tier was added in 2000, and many of the club’s most vocal fans moved up there. Banners hang from the barrier at the front of that tier.

Today that second tier holds 6,000 rail seats, where home fans can stand all game. If you want to sing, this is your stand. If you want to stay in your seat for 90 minutes, look elsewhere.

Sir Alex Ferguson Stand (North Stand)

The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand is the biggest at Old Trafford, with three tiers and about 26,000 seats. It runs along the north touchline and was known as the North Stand until 2011. The club’s museum is in this stand, and a statue of Sir Alex Ferguson stands outside.

The middle and upper tiers give a wide view of the game, which helps you follow how the teams move. The cost of that view is a long climb to the top tier. The lower tier puts you much closer to the pitch.

Sir Bobby Charlton Stand (South Stand)

The Sir Bobby Charlton Stand is the only single-tier stand at Old Trafford, with the railway line running right behind it. It sits along the south touchline and holds the dugouts, the covered benches for managers and substitutes, in its centre.

Most of the ground’s executive suites are here, along with the media seats and the TV gantry, the platform for cameras. That means this is the stand you see least on television. Seats near halfway put you close to the touchline and the managers.

East Stand

The East Stand is behind the east goal, with two tiers and nearly 12,000 seats. It holds the away section and the disabled supporters’ section, and some fans still call it the Scoreboard End. The Megastore, the club’s main shop, is in this stand, and the Munich Clock is where it meets the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand.

Where is the best place to sit at Old Trafford?

The best place to sit at Old Trafford is the Stretford End for noise and the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand near halfway for the view. To be close to the pitch, choose the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. Use this table to match a seat to what you want:

You want Sit here Why Not ideal if
Noise and singing Stretford End, second tier Home fans stand here all game You want to stay seated
The whole picture Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, middle or upper tier, near halfway You see the shape of the game You dislike long climbs
To be close to the pitch Sir Bobby Charlton Stand, near halfway You are beside the dugouts You prefer a high view
A first visit Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, lower tier You are near the pitch, with the Stretford End in sight You want to be in the singing
A lower price Any area, for a Category C game The opponent sets the price first You want the biggest visitors

Manchester United’s public pages do not list restricted-view seats, so check any note shown when you pick a seat.

Where is hospitality at Old Trafford?

Hospitality at Old Trafford, a ticket with food and drink, is mostly in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand, which holds most of the executive suites. The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand also has some executive boxes and hospitality suites. The club sells hospitality game by game, and you do not need a membership to buy it.

Where should you sit if you are coming for one game?

If you are coming for one game from far away, the simplest route is an Official Match Break. This is a package from the club’s travel partners, Champions Travel and Travel Connection, that combines a match ticket with a hotel and travel. Ask where the seats are before you book, because you may not pick the exact seat yourself.

What is safe standing at Old Trafford?

Safe standing at Old Trafford means rail seats, which are seats with a safety rail in front so that fans can stand in a fixed spot. Manchester United says it has 13,577 rail seats, or 18 per cent of total capacity, in all four quadrants of the ground. A quadrant is one quarter of the stadium.

The first rail seats went into the north-east quadrant in 2021. The 6,000 in the second tier of the Stretford End came next. The Sports Grounds Safety Authority certified them in November 2025, ahead of the visit of Everton on 24 November. The club calls this one of the largest safe standing areas in the Premier League.

Rail seats are best for fans who like to stand. They are not ideal if you need to sit for the whole game, because the people around you will be on their feet.

How much do seats at Old Trafford cost?

Seats at Old Trafford cost from £33 for an adult in 2026/27, and the opponent sets the price before the stand does. Manchester United sorts its home games into four categories, which are price bands, and better areas of the ground cost more within each band.

Category Adults from Home games in it
A £62 Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich
B £55 Brentford, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, Newcastle, Everton, Crystal Palace, Leeds
C £44 Coventry, RB Leipzig, Hull City
D £33 None on the list at the end of October

So the same seat costs more for Liverpool than for Coventry. The club’s public pages give these starting prices, not a list for each stand. You see the price of a seat when you pick it from the stadium plan on tickets.manutd.com.

You need a membership first, because league seats are sold only to members. Official Membership, a paid plan for one season, costs £37.50 and lets you buy one ticket per game. The guide to Manchester United ticket prices covers prices by age, and the Manchester United membership guide compares the four types.

Season tickets have their own prices. A season ticket is one payment for a seat at all 19 league home games, and the lowest adult price is £646, or £34 a match. The Manchester United season ticket guide explains more. Members also get 15% off selected hospitality packages.

How do you choose a seat on the Old Trafford seating plan?

You choose a seat on the Old Trafford seating plan online, when you buy in the members’ sale on tickets.manutd.com. Follow these steps in order:

  1. Decide what matters most: noise, view or price.
  2. Check the game’s category, because it sets your starting price.
  3. Look up the view. A 3D seat map for Manchester United, built by 3D Digital Venue, lets you explore the ground section by section.
  4. Log in to the ticketing site with your membership number to hand.
  5. Pick your seat from the stadium plan. It is one ticket per member, so each person needs their own membership.
  6. Add your ticket to your Apple or Google wallet before matchday.

Does the Old Trafford seating plan show seat numbers?

The stadium plan on tickets.manutd.com lets you pick an exact seat, so that is where to look for rows and seat numbers. The 3D seat map also works by section, row and seat. Your ticket shows your seat once you have bought it.

What do the Old Trafford section numbers mean?

Old Trafford section codes mix letters for the stand with a number, such as E230 on the East Stand side and STH229 on the South Stand side. Your ticket also names your entrance, so go to that one on the day.

The old lettered sections have gone, but older fans still talk about K Stand, a famous singing section. Many of those fans moved to the second tier of the Stretford End.

Where do away fans sit at Old Trafford?

Away fans at Old Trafford sit in the south-east corner, between the East Stand and the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. The club’s 2026/27 price map marks sections E230 to E233 and STH229 for away supporters.

  • Tickets: your own club sells them, not Manchester United. Premier League clubs have agreed a £30 cap on away ticket prices.
  • Turnstiles: the away entry gates are at the south-east corner and open two hours before kick-off.
  • Bags: the bag drop for away fans is in the E2 car park.
  • Parking: car parks E1 and E2 can only be reached along Wharfside Way, with a permit. Fans parked there may be held back after the game.
  • Lost ticket: only your own club can approve a duplicate. You then collect it from Supporter Services, in car park W2, from four hours before kick-off, with photo ID.

Where should families sit at Old Trafford?

Families at Old Trafford have one dedicated area, the Family Stand, but it is kept for the families of season ticket holders. The club’s public pages do not say where it is. If you are buying single tickets, choose seats away from the rail sections, and ask the club where it suggests you sit.

  • Tickets: each child needs an Under 16 Membership at £20 a season, plus their own ticket.
  • Buying for a child: log in, select “Buy Now” under Under 16, then use the red “Change” pencil icon to assign it to them.
  • Phones: a child’s ticket appears on your phone if your accounts are strongly linked on the ticketing website. A child means someone under 16.
  • Bags: essential baby changing items are allowed through the bag rule.
  • Season tickets: under-16s pay from £12 a match in the family area.

What accessible seating does Old Trafford have?

Old Trafford has dedicated areas for disabled supporters and their carers or personal assistants, and the East Stand holds the disabled supporters’ section. Manchester United’s Club Charter says carers’ and personal assistants’ tickets are free.

  • Groups: “Family & Friends seating” lets wheelchair users watch the game together.
  • Booking: start with the Accessibility Help Page on tickets.manutd.com, or email accessibility@manutd.co.uk.
  • Carers: set up a strong relationship on the ticketing website, so that your tickets show on the right phones.
  • Equipment: for larger items such as crutches, email the same address with the item and your entrance number. Small items such as inhalers can come in a small bag.
  • Getting there: the Old Trafford tram stop is accessible for wheelchair users.

How do you get to Old Trafford?

The easiest way to get to Old Trafford is the Metrolink tram, because the Old Trafford stop is within a five-minute walk of the ground. Roads around the stadium, including the motorways, are extremely busy on matchdays. All kick-off times are UK time.

How Route Worth knowing
Tram Metrolink to Old Trafford. Imperial War Museum and Wharfside, on the Trafford Park line, are also a short walk The stop is shared with the cricket ground
Bus 255 and 256 (Stagecoach) and 263 (Arriva) from Piccadilly Gardens to Chester Road The 250 stops on Wharfside Way and the X50 on Water’s Reach
Train Main-line trains to Manchester Piccadilly, then tram or taxi A taxi takes about 15 minutes and costs £10 on average
Taxi from the airport Manchester Airport to the ground About 20 to 30 minutes, and £35 on average
Car Use postcode M16 0RA on matchdays Book an official car park online first
Bike Free racks in car parks N2, E2 and W2 Bring your own lock
  • Travelling from elsewhere in the UK? Aim for Manchester Piccadilly. The small station beside the ground no longer has a matchday service.
  • Coming from abroad? Manchester Airport is about 20 to 30 minutes from the ground by taxi.
  • Which car park? N2 is by the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, E2 by the East Stand and W2 by the West Stand. Allow extra time for searches.

What can you bring to Old Trafford, and how do you get in?

You can bring a bag to Old Trafford only if it is no bigger than 20cm x 15cm x 5cm, which is far smaller than A4. The exceptions are essential medical or childcare items, and Megastore carrier bags holding what you bought that day. A clear carrier bag from home is fine if it meets the size limit.

Bigger bags go into a bag drop, a staffed place to leave them for a £5 charge. Bag drops are in car parks E2, N2 and W2 Cosgrove, and in the Manchester United Foundation car park off Railway Road.

Everyone is searched or screened on entry, so arrive in good time. Getting in is simple once you know the steps:

  1. Go to the entrance shown on your ticket and join a queue.
  2. Keep your bag and coat on you. There is no need to empty your pockets unless you are asked.
  3. Open your ticket and tap your phone at the turnstile, the entry gate, as if you were paying by contactless.

There are no QR codes. If the app will not load, connect to the free stadium Wi-Fi. A small charger that fits in your pocket is allowed.

On the day, the match programme, United Review, costs £4. The museum and stadium tour only open to hospitality guests on matchdays, but they are open the day before and the day after. Smoking is banned in the stadium, including e-cigarettes.

When should you arrive at Old Trafford?

You should arrive at Old Trafford in plenty of time for security checks, and two hours before kick-off if you need a bag drop. These are the club’s published times:

When What happens
Four hours before kick-off Bag drops open, and away fans can collect an approved duplicate ticket
Two hours before kick-off Away turnstiles open
During the game The Megastore is closed
One hour after the final whistle The Megastore reopens
2.5 hours after the final whistle Bag drops close

What mistakes should you avoid at Old Trafford?

  • Bringing a normal backpack. It will not pass the size limit, and a bag drop adds time and a £5 charge.
  • Using a screenshot. Screenshots are not valid at the turnstile.
  • Booking a rail seat by mistake. If you need to sit, avoid the second tier of the Stretford End.
  • Taking a train to the ground’s own station. It has no matchday service.
  • Driving without a booking. Book an official car park before you travel.

Frequently asked questions

Where do away fans sit at Old Trafford?

Away fans sit in the south-east corner of Old Trafford, between the East Stand and the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. The club's 2026/27 price map marks sections E230 to E233 and STH229 for them. The away turnstiles are in the same corner and open two hours before kick-off.

Which is the home end at Old Trafford?

The Stretford End, the two-tier West Stand behind the west goal, is the home end at Old Trafford. Its second tier has held 6,000 rail seats, certified for safe standing, since November 2025, and the loudest home support gathers there. Rail seats also exist in the other three quadrants of the ground.

What are the best seats at Old Trafford?

For the clearest view of the whole game, choose the middle or upper tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand near halfway. To be close to the pitch and the dugouts, choose the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. For atmosphere, choose the Stretford End. The price depends first on the opponent's category, then on the area.

How does Old Trafford compare to other Premier League stadiums in size?

Old Trafford is a very large Premier League ground, with a capacity of 74,158 in the Premier League Handbook for 2026/27. For comparison, the same handbook lists Anfield, Liverpool's home, at 61,276. Figures for Old Trafford vary online, so the league's own number is the safest one to use.

Is there a 3D seating plan for Old Trafford?

Yes. A 3D seat map for Manchester United, built by 3D Digital Venue, lets you explore Old Trafford section by section and shows sections, rows and seats. The club's ticketing site also has a stadium plan, which you use to pick your seat when you buy in the members' sale.

Does Old Trafford have safe standing?

Yes. Manchester United says Old Trafford has 13,577 rail seats, or 18 per cent of capacity, in all four quadrants of the ground. A rail seat has a safety rail in front so that fans can stand in a fixed spot. The biggest area is 6,000 rail seats in the second tier of the Stretford End.

Is Old Trafford covered?

Yes, all four stands at Old Trafford are covered by a roof, so seats are under cover in every part of the ground. The stands are the Stretford End, the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand and the East Stand. The pitch itself is open to the sky.

What size bag can you take into Old Trafford?

You can take a bag no bigger than 20cm x 15cm x 5cm, or 8 x 6 x 2 inches, which is far smaller than A4. Anything larger goes into a paid bag drop at £5, open four hours before kick-off. Essential medical or childcare items and Megastore carrier bags are the exceptions.

How do I get to Old Trafford by tram?

Take the Metrolink to the Old Trafford stop, which it shares with the cricket ground. It is within a five-minute walk of the stadium and accessible for wheelchair users. The Imperial War Museum and Wharfside stops on the Trafford Park line are also a short walk from the ground.

Is the Old Trafford cricket ground the same as the football stadium?

No. Emirates Old Trafford is the cricket ground, a separate venue with its own seating plan. Old Trafford, on Sir Matt Busby Way, is Manchester United's football stadium. The two share a Metrolink tram stop, so check which venue is on your ticket before you travel.
