At a glance
- Twickenham, officially Allianz Stadium, seats up to 82,000 in four stands and three tiers: Lower, Middle and Upper.
- The RFU sets five ticket categories: Premium, then 1 to 4. They cut across the stands, and one block can hold up to three.
- The stadium advises against the Upper Tier for anyone with children under 8. Buggies and prams are not allowed.
- As of 31 October 2026, England Rugby's help page says its view-from-seat function is unavailable, so use fans' photos.
- Twickenham station is a 10-minute walk away. Roads close two hours before the match, and bags must be A4 or smaller.
- North Stand: Three tiers. Opened in 1990, the first of the modern stands.
- East Stand: Three tiers, built to the same design as the North Stand.
- South Stand: Rebuilt in 2005 and 2006. Holds a hotel and most hospitality seats.
- West Stand: Three tiers, built to the same design as the North Stand.
Simple plan, not to scale.
The Twickenham seating plan has four stands (North, East, South and West) and three tiers (Lower, Middle and Upper), with up to 82,000 seats in one closed bowl. Prices follow five ticket categories, not stands. So choose your category and tier first, then the stand, and keep young children out of the steep Upper Tier.
Fixtures and sale status are on the Twickenham tickets page. Other games are on the rugby tickets page.
How does the Twickenham seating plan work?
The Twickenham seating plan works by tier first and stand second. A tier is a level of seats, and all three run around the four stands. A block is a section of seats inside a tier, and your ticket category sets the price of your seat.
Twickenham, officially Allianz Stadium since September 2024, is the home of England rugby, on Whitton Road in south-west London. It first opened on 2 October 1909. The stadium says it seats up to 82,000, the largest capacity of any rugby union stadium in the world.
| Tier | What it is like | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Lower Tier | Closest to the pitch, without the climb to the high concourses, the walkways behind the seats | Families with young children, and anyone who dislikes heights |
| Middle Tier | A raised view across the pitch, reached from concourses the stadium calls extremely high | Fans comfortable with height |
| Upper Tier | The top of the bowl, on a steep slope that the stadium says some people find unnerving | Confident climbers, but not anyone with children under 8 |
The stands are named by compass point. The North Stand opened in 1990, and the East and West Stands followed to the same design. The South Stand, rebuilt in 2005 and 2006, closed the bowl and holds the Radisson RED hotel.
How do Twickenham ticket categories work?
Twickenham ticket categories are price bands set by the RFU, the Rugby Football Union, which runs English rugby. There are five: Premium, then Categories 1, 2, 3 and 4. They cut across the tiers and stands, so a stand name tells you little about the price.
- One block, several prices: a single block can hold up to three categories, so seats a few rows apart can cost different amounts.
- Changes: the RFU can reclassify seats at its discretion.
- Hospitality seats: England Rugby Travel says official hospitality tickets will likely be in the South Stand.
Do this when you book: read the category at checkout, not just the stand name.
Where are the best seats at Twickenham?
The best seats at Twickenham for most first-timers are low and near the middle of the pitch, in the Lower or Middle Tier. High in a corner, you look down the pitch instead of across it. The right seat depends on who is with you:
- Best for being close: the Lower Tier.
- Best for seeing the whole game: the Middle Tier, if you are happy with height.
- Best for families: the Lower Tier, booked from the start.
- Best for a lower price: Category 4, the lowest of the five bands.
- Not for you if heights worry you: the Upper Tier.
How can you see the view from your seat at Twickenham?
To see the view from your seat at Twickenham, use fans’ photos for now, because England Rugby’s help page says its view-from-seat function is unavailable. That was still the case on 31 October 2026. The site A View From My Seat has a Twickenham Stadium page with fans’ own pictures.
- Pick a tier and category on England Rugby’s ticket site.
- Check your block and row. England Rugby’s help page says that, when the tool works, you click your block and hover over the grey squares.
- Look up that block on A View From My Seat for a rough idea of the view.
Searching for a Twickenham seating plan with seat numbers as a PDF? The stadium’s PDF is a match day map of the site, not a seat chart, and its visitor pages list no block or row numbers.
Where do away fans sit at Twickenham?
Away fans at Twickenham sit among England supporters, because Tests are not segregated. A Test is a full international match. Visiting fans buy wherever seats are available, so there is no away end to look for.
The same goes for Harlequins’ Big Game, the Varsity Match and Premiership games played here.
How much are Twickenham tickets?
Twickenham ticket prices depend on the match and the category. England v Australia starts from £79 and England v Japan from £51 on England Rugby’s site.
Six Nations 2027 club prices show how far a category moves the price. Entitlement prices are for a club’s own share of tickets.
| Six Nations 2027 match | Category 4 | Premium | Junior |
|---|---|---|---|
| England v France or England v Scotland | £84 entitlement, £93 standard | £176 entitlement, £207 standard | £37 |
| England v Italy | £71 entitlement, £76 standard | £134 entitlement, £155 standard | £15 |
How do England tickets go on sale?
England tickets at Twickenham go first to closed groups, then to a general sale, open to everyone, if one is held. The groups are RFU clubs, debenture holders, registered Twickenham residents and England Rugby Club First XV members. Debentures are long-term deals that give the holder the right to buy a seat.
- Ask your rugby club. For the 2027 Six Nations, the club window ran from 26 August to 22 September 2026.
- Join First XV, England Rugby’s membership. Members could buy from 6 October, two tickets per membership for France and Scotland, with no limit for Italy.
- Watch for a general sale. The November 2026 Tests went on general sale on 6 March 2026.
What hospitality can you buy at Twickenham?
Hospitality at Twickenham means a match ticket sold with food, drink and a lounge, through Allianz Stadium hospitality. Packages include The Lock by Tom Kerridge, The East Wing by Tommy Banks, the British Airways Rose Garden and the Allianz Suite. Private suites and debentures are sold too.
It is best for a special day, or when a match has sold out. It is not worth it if you only want a seat for the rugby.
Can you bring children or a disabled fan to Twickenham?
You can bring children to Twickenham and they can sit anywhere, but the stadium advises against the Upper Tier for anyone with children under 8. Children must be supervised at all times on the high concourses. Book the Lower Tier from the start, because re-seating on the day cannot be promised.
- Babies: under-2s need no ticket, but must be in a front carrier. Buggies, prams and carry seats are not allowed.
- Junior tickets: juniors are 15 and under. Junior tickets exist for most matches, but not major internationals.
- Phones: accompanied under-18s can use a parent’s phone. Proof of age may be asked for.
- Disabled fans: the RFU runs a separate accessibility ballot, a prize draw, for Access Card holders. Its ticket site has an accessibility page.
How do you get to Twickenham?
The easiest way to get to Twickenham is the train to Twickenham station, a 10-minute walk from the stadium. Trains run from London Waterloo, Reading and Windsor and Eton Riverside. Other stations are further away, so plan your walk or shuttle.
| Station | Walk | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Twickenham | 10 minutes | The closest station |
| Whitton | 20 minutes | National Rail |
| Hounslow | 30 minutes | National Rail |
| Hounslow East, Piccadilly line | 30 minutes | RFU shuttle bus runs from three hours before kick-off to three hours after the final whistle |
| Richmond, District line and Overground | 45 minutes | Same shuttle: £5 before the match, free afterwards |
- Bus: routes 281, 481, 681 and 110 stop a minute’s walk away, though the 281 and 481 may be diverted.
- Driving: roads close two hours before the match and for two to three hours after it. Matchday parking must be booked in advance, and a controlled parking zone covers about a mile around the ground.
- Going home by minicab: private hire cars pick up at the Twickenham Stoop, Harlequins’ ground across the A316.
- Cycling: bike racks are in the south-east corner by the Ticket Office.
- Finding your gate: head to the gate on your ticket. Entrances are Gates A to F, the Rose and Poppy Gate and the Jerusalem Gates.
When do Twickenham gates open, and what can you bring?
Twickenham gates open hours before kick-off. On England v New Zealand day, the gates and the British Airways Fan Village open at 10.40am and the seating bowl at 12.40pm, for a 2.10pm kick-off. For internationals, bars open about 3.5 hours before kick-off.
- Your ticket: it lives in the Allianz Stadium app, and the QR code appears 48 hours before the match. Do not screenshot it. Each person needs their own ticket on their own phone.
- Bags: anything you carry must be A4 or smaller, and every bag is searched. Larger items go to the bag drop at Webb Ellis House on Rugby Road, which costs £10.
- Not allowed: alcohol, glass, cans, air horns and pushchairs.
- Paying: bars and food units take card or contactless only. The one cash machine is to the right of the England Rugby Store.
- Water: water stations are at ground level in the north-east and south-east corners.
- Leaving: entry is allowed only once, and the whole stadium is non-smoking.
What mistakes should you avoid at Twickenham?
The main mistakes at Twickenham are choosing by stand name, booking the Upper Tier with small children and bringing a bag bigger than A4. A bag that is too big can see you refused entry without a refund.
- Waiting for a Six Nations general sale: none has been announced, so look at the other routes.
- Driving in late: road closures start two hours before the match.
- Leaving at half-time: you cannot come back in.

Frequently asked questions
Which tier is best at Twickenham?
It depends on who is with you. The Lower Tier at Twickenham is closest to the action and avoids the very high concourses, so it is the safe pick with small children. The Middle Tier gives a raised view across the pitch. The Upper Tier is steep, and the stadium advises against it with children under 8.
How do Twickenham ticket categories work?
Twickenham has five ticket categories set by the RFU: Premium, then Categories 1 to 4. They are spread across the tiers and stands, and a single block can contain up to three of them. So two seats a few rows apart can cost different amounts. Check the category at checkout, not the stand name.
How many seats does Twickenham have?
Twickenham, officially Allianz Stadium, seats up to 82,000 people across four stands and three tiers. The stadium calls it the largest rugby union stadium in the world. Wikipedia gives the usual concert capacity as up to 55,000. The Lower, Middle and Upper Tiers run around the whole bowl.
How can I see the view from my seat at Twickenham?
England Rugby's help page says its view-from-seat function is unavailable, so use fans' photos for now. A View From My Seat has a Twickenham Stadium page with pictures taken by ticket holders. Look for your tier and block, and treat each photo as a rough guide to the view you will get.
Does Twickenham publish a seating plan with seat numbers?
The stadium's visitor pages list no block or row numbers. It does publish a match day map as a PDF on its Getting Here page, which shows the site rather than the seats. Your entry gate is on the mobile ticket in the Allianz Stadium app, where the QR code goes live 48 hours before the match.
What age is a junior ticket at Twickenham?
Juniors at Twickenham are aged 15 and under. Junior tickets are available for most matches, but not for major internationals, so check your own fixture. Six Nations 2027 club prices show junior tickets at £37 for France and Scotland and £15 for Italy. Under-2s need no ticket but must be in a front carrier.
Can I take a baby or a pushchair to Twickenham?
You can take a baby to Twickenham, but not a pushchair. Under-2s go free and must be carried in a front carrier, because buggies, prams and carry seats are not allowed inside. Children over 2 need their own ticket, and they can sit anywhere in the stadium.
Is Twickenham the same as Allianz Stadium?
Yes. Twickenham Stadium was renamed Allianz Stadium in September 2024, as part of a long-term partnership with Allianz, and most fans still call it Twickenham. It is the same ground in south-west London and the home of England rugby, so older seating plans under the Twickenham name show the same four stands.
How do I get from Richmond to Twickenham on a matchday?
Take the RFU shuttle bus, which links Richmond station, on the District line and London Overground, with the stadium. It runs from three hours before kick-off until three hours after the final whistle, and costs £5 on the way there and nothing on the way back. Walking takes about 45 minutes.
Where do away fans sit at Twickenham?
Away fans at Twickenham sit among England supporters, because Tests are not segregated and there is no away end. Visiting supporters buy wherever seats are available. The same applies at Harlequins' Big Game, the Varsity Match and Premiership games played at the stadium. Choose your seat by tier and category, like everyone else.
