Utilita Arena Birmingham seating plan
Stage1234
  1. Arena floor: Standing, or flat seated blocks A to Z. It changes with the show.
  2. Blocks 1 to 5 and 8 to 12: Raised seats along the two long sides, looking across the floor.
  3. Blocks 6 and 7: Raised seats at the curved end, head-on to a stage at the far end.
  4. Premium balconies and suites: Hospitality areas, with private suites 1 to 10 and lounges.

Simple plan, not to scale.

The Utilita Arena Birmingham seating plan has three parts: a flat arena floor, twelve numbered blocks of raised seats on three sides of it, and premium suites and lounges above. The city-centre arena, once called the NIA, can hold 15,800 people. For a first visit, choose a raised block that looks straight at the stage.

The next shows and their sale status are on the Utilita Arena Birmingham tickets page. Start with your own date there, because the stage can stand in a different place at each show.

How does the Utilita Arena Birmingham seating plan work?

The Utilita Arena Birmingham seating plan works in layers: the arena floor at ground level, blocks 1 to 12 in raised rows above it, and premium areas higher up. A block is a numbered section of seats, and your ticket gives your block, row and seat.

Utilita Arena Birmingham is an indoor arena on King Edward’s Road in the city centre, beside the canal and opposite Brindleyplace. It opened on 4 October 1991 as the National Indoor Arena. Wikipedia gives its capacity as 15,800, using temporary seats as well as permanent ones. Old plans may say NIA, Barclaycard Arena or Arena Birmingham.

Area Where it is Best for Watch out for
Standing floor Ground level, in front of the stage Getting as close as you can Not suitable for under-14s at certain shows
Seated floor, blocks A to Z The same floor, with rows of chairs Being near the stage in a seat It is flat, so heads can block your view
Blocks 1 to 5 and 8 to 12 Raised seats along the two long sides. Block 1 faces block 12 A side view from above the crowd Blocks nearest the stage look across it, not straight at it
Blocks 6 and 7 Raised seats at the curved end A head-on view of a stage at the open end In that layout they are furthest from the stage

The official map shows no blocks beyond 1 and 12, which leaves one end of the arena open. You reach the raised blocks from the concourse, the indoor walkway behind the seats, where you will find the bars, food stalls and toilets.

Does the Utilita Arena Birmingham seating plan show seat numbers?

No, the official Utilita Arena Birmingham seating plan stops at blocks. It shows blocks 1 to 12 and floor blocks A to Z, but no rows or seat numbers. For a seating plan with seat numbers, use the seat map on the booking page for your date.

The same goes for a Take That, Strictly Come Dancing, John Bishop or Peter Kay seating plan, because each show can put the stage somewhere else. To choose a seat:

  1. Find your show on the arena’s Events page and follow the link to the seller, usually AXS, the arena’s official ticketing partner.
  2. Find the stage on the seat map, to see which blocks face it.
  3. Read the seat label. A restricted view seat is one where equipment, barriers or the building may block part of your view, and it is marked at booking.
  4. Check again before you pay. The arena says seat choices cannot be changed once a booking is confirmed.

Is there a virtual seating plan or a view from my seat?

Utilita Arena Birmingham has no seat-by-seat virtual view on its visitor pages, and it says it cannot give images of the view from individual seats. Its Inside the Arena page has flat maps of each level to download. For real pictures, try the fan photos on A View From My Seat.

Where are the best seats at Utilita Arena Birmingham?

The best seats at Utilita Arena Birmingham are usually in a raised block facing the stage, because you see over the crowd from your own seat. The stage moves between shows, so find it on your seat map first and work outwards.

  • Best straight-on view: blocks 6 and 7, when the stage stands at the open end.
  • Closest raised seats: blocks 1 and 12 in that same layout. You watch at an angle, not head-on.
  • Best for sound: the arena publishes no sound guide, so sit in front of the stage if you can, not far out to one side.
  • Best for shorter fans and children: a raised block, because the floor is flat.

The arena warns that people in seated areas may stand during a show, which can affect your view.

Should you stand or sit at Utilita Arena Birmingham?

Stand at Utilita Arena Birmingham if you want to get close and can stay on your feet, and sit if you want a clear view. The floor is decided show by show: Erasure on Friday 30 April 2027, for example, is all seated.

A standing ticket is general admission, which means no numbered spot: you stand wherever you find room. Standing fans should know:

  • Queuing: no queue is allowed until the day of the event, and camping is banned. The arena runs no numbering system, so lists made by fans are unofficial.
  • Waiting: the toilets are inside, so you cannot use them until the doors open.

What premium seats and suites does Utilita Arena Birmingham have?

Premium at Utilita Arena Birmingham means hospitality: a ticket with extras, such as a padded seat, a lounge or a private suite. Premium tickets and upgrades are sold only through AXS.

Option What you get
Premium seats Padded seats with extra leg room, in the arena or on a premium balcony
Lounges Edit, RPM, Remaster, Acoustic, Electric and the Frequency Deck. Food may be included, depending on the package
Private suites Suites 1 to 10 on Premium Level 3
Upgrade Parts of the Premium experience. You keep your standard ticket and your own seat

Premium guests go in through Entrance A: find the Lego giraffe, then climb the stairs and check in. Premium suits a special night out, but it adds little if you just want to be near the stage, because the standing floor is closer.

How much are Utilita Arena Birmingham tickets?

Utilita Arena Birmingham ticket prices are set for each show, so the arena publishes no price list for its floor or blocks. AXS shows the price and seat options for each date. These extras are worth knowing:

  • Fees: service, facility and delivery fees are added during booking, and all of them show before you pay.
  • Printing: without a phone, you pay £2 per ticket to have your ticket printed at the box office.
  • Child tickets: some events sell them at a lower price, while others charge every age the standard price.
  • Refunds: the arena says all ticket purchases are non-refundable.

A pre-sale is an early sale before the general sale, which is open to everyone. The arena’s mailing list is the usual way in, though some pre-sales need a code from the artist. Groups book through AXS at ukgroups@axs.com.

Which entrance should you use at Utilita Arena Birmingham?

The entrance you use at Utilita Arena Birmingham depends on your event and ticket type, and queue locations are not published in advance. The official maps show eight entrances, lettered A to H, and staff outside will point you to the right one.

Entrance Worth knowing
A Premium entrance, and priority entrance for customers of Utilita, the energy supplier
B Floor level, by the Lego giraffe

Companion tickets are sold there too, where offered. AXS also accepts the Nimbus Access Card, a card that records your access needs and unlocks seats to match.

  • Getting in: the most direct level route is the boardwalk to Entrance E. For a drop-off, ask for the bottom of the main steps on King Edward’s Road.
  • Blue Badge parking: Level 11 of the South Car Park has direct lift access. Level 9 of the North Car Park is near Entrance G but has no lift.
  • Hearing: a radio-frequency system covers 100% of the bowl, the seating area, and receiver packs are free from security staff.
  • Walking aids: crutches and walking sticks are fine. Walking frames and rollators are not allowed in the seating blocks or on the standing floor, so book the accessible bays or ramps.
  • Toilets: most accessible toilets open with a RADAR key, the national key for these toilets, and stewards can help if you have none. A Changing Places toilet, with a hoist and an adult-sized bench, is opposite Block 5.
  • Sign language: ask at least 8 weeks ahead for a British Sign Language interpreter.

Bringing children to Utilita Arena Birmingham?

Children under 14 must be with an adult aged 18 or over who holds a valid ticket. At certain shows the standing area is not suitable for under-14s, so book seats for them. Because of the sound levels, the arena recommends that under-5s go only to shows aimed at young children.

What mistakes should you avoid at Utilita Arena Birmingham?

  • Booking the wrong venue: bp pulse LIVE is the NEC Group’s other arena, out at the NEC, and Symphony Hall is a separate venue. Cardiff has a Utilita Arena too, so check the name and city before you pay.
  • Using the wrong email: the venue app finds your tickets only if you sign up with the email address you used to buy them.
  • Splitting your party: a ticket transfer, which sends a ticket to a friend’s AXS account, cannot be undone. Where an event does not allow transfers, everyone must arrive together.
